Updated: Nov 16, 2023

Ohio Medicare Recipients Cautioned Against Telephone Scammers Seeking Personal Information

What You Need To Know
  • Ohio Medicare Beneficiaries Alerted of Telephone Scammers Attempting to Acquire Personal Information.

  • Ohioans enrolled in Medicare are advised to be cautious of telephone fraudsters trying to steal their personal information.

  • To report such scams, residents can reach out to the Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol at 800-488-6070 or visit the website proseniors.org.

Ohio residents are being targeted by a new scam involving the "New Medicare Card". Scammers posing as representatives of government agencies, such as the Social Security Administration or Ohio Department of Insurance, are calling residents and asking for personal information, claiming they need a new Medicare card.

The Ohio Department of Insurance reminds residents to never provide personal information, including Medicare or Social Security numbers, to unsolicited calls, emails, or door-to-door sales. Real representatives from government agencies will not make unsolicited calls to Ohio residents on Medicare.

Medicare or Medicare health plans will only request personal information if you are a plan member or if you called and left a message. If you suspect you may have fallen victim to this scam, contact Ohio Senior Medicare Patrol at 800-488-6070 or visit the website proseniors.org. For additional resources, reach out to the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) at the Ohio Department of Insurance at 800-686-1578 or via email at oshiipmail@insurance.ohio.gov, or visit their website at insurance.ohio.gov.
